Full time carer
The trouble is it takes so long to do everything, any thought processes are no longer functioning properly and decisions are too difficult to make. We have rapidly become experts in second guessing and knowing where everything is.
To be honest it is better to have mum not knowing everything that is going on rather than cope with the half existence of confusion, misunderstanding, arguments, frustration and questions. Let her deal with what she can and within the capacity that she has usually avoids any issues.
Nothing new can be introduced, it must be familiar or we must be prepared to have repeated conversations on what is going to happen.
Unfortunately she loses things all the time, gloves and keys being the most prolific, this means I have to check her bag and I feel very uncomfortable doing it. But, if I ask her if she has looked she will say yes and they aren't in there, so I have to check and 9 times out of 10 I find them.
Medication was being taken but due to new issues cropping up the Dr has taken mum off donepezil, at least that is one less conversation to worry about.
Making sure she does the basics, teeth cleaning, washing clothes, drinking enough, eating the right things regularly, keeping occupied (not just staring in to space). Visiting people is a challenge, there is a tendency to become very insular so we make sure she still gets out and about
